At the gym, kids have the opportunity to run, jump, climb, and tumble in a safe and healthy environment under the guidance of qualified instructors. And, gymnastics students can start young. While kids can’t play most organized sports until they’re in kindergarten, they can start in gymnastics shortly after they learn to walk.

Gymnastics offers a natural progression of physical skill development, from basic coordination and balance to superior strength and flexibility. These skills form the foundation to excel in other sports and activities as well.

The benefits of gymnastics training extend beyond physical to personal development. In the gym, children gain confidence, self-esteem, and focus – benefits that carry over to the classroom and personal relationships. According to Dr. Robyn Silverman, PhD., “Research suggests that there is a strong correlation between physically fit children and academic achievement. This means that every time you send your child to gymnastics class, they’re getting an opportunity to engage in physical exercise that encourages healthy brain function. Nerve cells multiply and connections in the brain are strengthened. It is not surprising that children who are engaging in consistent physical activity like gymnastics are more likely to get better grades than their inactive peers.”

We promote the sport of  gymnastics with positive instruction and proper  technique on all the Olympic events. Here you  will develop coordination, confidence, mental  alertness, good sportsmanship and physical  fitness in a family friendly environment.

Gymnastic Programs

Parent Child Classes

From walking to 3 yrs.

Our Co-Ed Parent-Child classes are designed to allow you a hands-on experience with your child. This class is designed to help them learn the basic building blocks of gymnastics such as balance, coordination, and strength. It also teaches principles of learning behaviors such as patience, listening, consistency and developmental skills. Walker’s strives to create a balance of structure and fun. Parent-Child classes are 60 minutes long.  Each class begins with a 15 minute musical warm up. Our focus is on strengthening basic skills and building body awareness while at the same time introducing students to Olympic events.

Recreational Classes

Ages 3 to 18

Pre-School Classes – 3+ Years

Our Co-Ed Preschool classes are designed to allow your child the independence to advance at a level all on their own. Preschool classes are 60 minutes long.  Each class begins with a 15 minute musical warm up. This class focuses on strengthening basic skills and building body awareness while at the same time introducing students to Olympic events.

Recreational Classes – 6-18 Years

Our recreational gymnastics classes focus on either Women’s or Men’s Olympic events. Classes are offered at the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels. Beginner/Intermediate are 60 minutes long. Advanced classes are 90 minutes long, and are intended for those students who have mastered the basic skills. All classes start with a 15 minute warm up, followed by instruction on all Olympic events.

Tumbling

As the popularity and competitive level of cheerleading increases, so does the need for gymnastics tumbling skills. In many cases, tumbling is a prerequisite to making it onto a cheering team. At Walker’s, Tumbling classes are held on a spring floor, which provides students with several advantages.

  • The impact of constant repetition often required to learn a skill is lessened.

  • A spring floor provides an extra “bounce”, increasing confidence and the potential to learn skills more quickly.

Students attending classes focus strictly on Tumbling  for an entire hour. For many Pop Warner and school cheerleaders, the experience at Walker’s has provided that extra “edge” needed to help them stay competitive.

Hot Shots

Competitive

Hot Shots is a pre-competitive program designed to be the foundation for Walker’s competitive gymnastics teams. Our Hot Shots team is comprised of some of our youngest gymnasts that have demonstrated natural ability, focus, and passion for gymnastics. On Hot Shots, your child will continue learning developmental skills, body awareness, discipline, and experience teamwork. Additionally, your child will participate in strength and flexibility training to help prepare them for competitive gymnastics. This comprehensive training program allows your young gymnast a jump-start on the track to our competitive, USA Xcel Gymnastics team.

Xcel Team

Competitive

Walker’s USA Xcel program provides gymnasts of varying abilities and commitment levels the opportunity to be involved in the rewarding world of competitive gymnastics. In order to enter this competitive program, your gymnast must have reached their fifth birthday as of September 1st. There are five divisions of Xcel: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. At Walker’s, each division is required to work out 2 days per week (totaling 5 hours per week). Our Gold, Platinum, and Diamond athletes have the option of working out a third day each week. Gymnasts have optional routines with specific skill difficulty requirements depending on their division. In addition to the set requirements, gymnasts are able to substitute certain skills to showcase their individual strengths. Gymnasts in the USA Xcel Program will compete throughout the state, and have the opportunity to advance to state and regional championships at the end of each season.
